The Power Of Learning Throughout Life : LIFELONG LEARNING

Learning is simply the process of acquiring new understanding, knowledge, behaviours, skills, values, attitudes, and preferences. It basically starts from the moment we were conceived in the womb of our mother and ends at the time of our death. Life teaches us plenty of lessons through Formal, Informal or Non-Formal ways of learning. Learning throughout life has a great power to change one's life, to influence one's attitude and to orient one's behavior.

Most of us stop the formal way of learning and educating oneself after having acquired commendable qualifications or after getting hired by one of the best working institutions. At that moment of time we feel that we have done our best and have achieved the success which we always desired for. But, Challenges are everywhere and every new day comes up with a fresh new challenge. Isn't it?

Learning throughout life also known as Lifelong learning is the practice of continuing to learn throughout one's entire life, especially outside of or after the completion of formal schooling. Lifelong means “lasting or continuing through all or much of one's life.” We tend to think of learning as ending when school ends. But there is always more to learn, in both formal and informal settings. Lifelong learning can be pursued for a number of reasons, such as to acquire new skills for one’s job or hobby or simply for personal fulfillment.

Learning throughout life is very crucial for the holistic development of mind and  body.

Listed below are the 7 Powers of Learning Throughout Life:

  1. Updation Of Knowledge Bank

Learning keeps an individual's curiosity level high and helps updating information on a regular basis. It keeps an individual always alert to answer any kind of query or solve any problematic situation. Be it general awareness, science and technology or polity and governance, basic to advanced information on a particular area of interest keeps an individual highly updated with the past, present and probable future conditions. It gives an edge to an individual among the others in the society or friend circle.

  1. Promotes Mental Health & Peace

Continuous Learning enables an individual to avoid getting into the wrong practices happening in the surrounding. Like gossiping, talking ill about a specific person or thing, wasting time, being over concerned about the things around us, daydreaming, doing harm to self or to other's, thinking wrong about a specific person etc. Getting involved in learning keeps us away from all these habits and creates in us a stable mind hence promoting mental health and peace.

  1. Occupies In Work

Learning keeps us always busy with some Or the other form of work. It enables us to utilize our time wisely and invest the perfect time in the right kind of work. It promotes scientific temper, positive attitude and creativity in an individual. It enables us to reduce the wastage of time by preventing us from giving priority to things which are not so important.

  1. Development Of Skills

By consistently educating yourself and trying new things, one learns that they are capable of change and growth, which keeps us open to new opportunities in life. Learning new skills is essential to advancing our career. It diversifies our job options and helps us to develop new techniques to keep up with the fast-changing world. So in short, continuous learning enables us to improve our cognitive skills, emotional skills, social skills, technical skills, digital skills, and psychomotor skills.

  1. Practicality In Approach

While learning, it's important to get a hands-on understanding of our subject and how the theory we learn applies to real-life situations. Practical learning allows you to learn quick adaptations needed for daily challenges and scenarios and allows you to get a better understanding of our course topic/subject. Practical work experience teaches valuable soft skills, such as discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership skills, communication skills and problem solving.

  1. Grades Up Qualification

Learning continuously (Formal Education) by opting for basic Certificate Or advanced Diploma courses not only adds up to our skills and knowledge but also helps us in upgrading our qualifications. It keeps us always high among the others with whom we are surrounded. It also adds up to our pride.

  1. Motivates Self

Continuous learning helps an individual to be self motivated. Self-motivation drives an individual to keep going even in the face of set-backs, to take up opportunities, and to show commitment to what they want to achieve. Hence, self-motivation is an essential life skill, as every individual on earth is different and has a purpose to achieve. According to Andrew Carnegie, “People who are unable to motivate themselves have to contend with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other skills/ talents are.”

So, feeling motivated to pursue further in academics or skills development? Get going. This is the right time. Continuous learning will not only make you feel happier but also more fulfilled in your lives and careers, in order to maintain stronger cognitive functioning when you get older.

KEEP LEARNING!!!

ENJOY LEARNING!!!
