10 Materials Every College Student Must Carry In Their Bags While Travelling Via Local Trains - The Mumbaikars Edition

Gasping for breath…Sitting on the window seat…In an overcrowded Ambernath - CST bound train.. During the peak office hours… Suddenly, a very low sound was heard…

Does anyone have chocolate? I am feeling giddy and about to faint…  I am not able to breathe..

To my surprise, when I looked around, everyone was busy on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp or YouTube but nobody was able to hear the pain of that young lady. Suddenly the young lady vomited, still the people around were worried for themselves, that their clothes remain unstained, few taking out their dupattas to cover the nose to avoid the smell, but nobody approached the young lady to help her out and provide her the aid she required at that moment.

Having been moved by this 'Inhuman Behaviour Of Humans' it made me write the above article today to help our young college  generation so that they will be Eveready in times of troubles when they do not have any family members or friends around them.

Being in college, we are fond of other things but not about our own self. We basically ensure that we put only one book, if not all , a branded makeup kit, a head phone, a lavish mobile phone in our bag, a wallet containing enough cash, wear fancy attractive clothes, some fashionable footwear and funky spectacles or sunglasses. But we fail to put in the essentials that will actually help us to save our life.

Students especially who travel long distances by train to reach their college have to suffer a lot as the Mumbai local trains are heavily crowded, so it's a big challenge to board or align from the train. No school or college delivers any special lecture during the college orientation on the safety precautions to be taken by the students while travelling in the train, so take this on a serious note and start following in routine.

In this article I will be enlisting things which are very essential to carry in our bag daily.

  1. Water / Lemon Juice

Carrying a bottle filled with water is considered as an unnecessary heavy weight by most of the students who always want to avoid it and hence fail to keep themselves hydrated throughout the hectic schedule. Always inculcate carrying our own water bottles instead of being dependent on others. In addition, it will always be preferable to carry lemon juice or lemonade to give you a refreshing touch thereby keeping yourself active and alert.

  1. Chocolates

Due to the excessive crowd in the train, most of the time it becomes difficult for us to breathe, and suddenly our heartbeat increases, sugar level goes down and everything blackouts. Sooner you start getting these symptoms, you can just pop in a piece of chocolate and get instant relief.

  1. Valid Identity Card

Carrying a valid ID card with proper address and other details can guide a co-passenger or friend to help you in times of need.

  1. Relispray

Accidents do happen frequently in a running train. A minor sprain, ligament tear or joint injury is a common list of problems experienced by everyone who commutes daily. It happens mostly while boarding or alighting from a running train. Keeping a Relispray bottle handy in your bag can help you to receive quick medi-care.

  1. Band Aid

Innumerable cuts or scratches happen every hour while commuting in a train. This is a common feature in the ladies compartment. Band-Aids can actually help ooze your pain instantly instead of fighting or arguing with the other person.

  1. Favourites In Mobile

Youths normally save names and contact details in code words for family and friends. Emergency can be stuck anytime, so ensure to add your immediate family members in your favourite list so that it becomes easy for any other person to find and contact them easily in times of need.

  1. Small Size Carry Bags

Small size disposable bags should be kept handy in the bag so that it can serve you for multiple purposes. Be it for vomiting, putting any waste thing, keeping wet umbrellas etc.

  1. Basic Medicines

Always remember to keep an extra dose of medicines if any you might be consuming on a daily basis. Also along with this the basic emergency medicines for headache, stomach pain, cold, fever, loose motions etc.

  1. Sanitizer / Mask / Tissue paper

Sanitizer, Mask and tissue papers are a must to carry even after COVID pandemic as it helps us to keep ourselves safe and secure from possible pathogens from one person to another person through the medium of air, on the train handles or on the bars near the door.

  1. Home Made Tiffin Box

Extra Homemade tiffin box should always be in your bag as during an emergency like delay in the routine schedule of the train, some breakdown, broken rails etc, it can be of great support for you.

I hope by reading this, many eyes would have actually opened up to know that such basic things can be crucially important to save our lives if carried in our bag. Don't wait till it's too late. Kindly share this with as many people as you can. If it's not for you, at least you can save someone else's life.
